There is something sacred about waking before dawn, stepping outside just in time to watch the sun crest over the mountains, the mist still resting quietly on the water. At Lake Junaluska, this peaceful moment becomes even more meaningful when shared with others on a morning prayer walk.
Each morning from 6:30–7:30 a.m., a group gathers by the pool to walk the lake at their own pace, beginning with simple conversation and reflection. As the path curves around the water, stories begin to surface. Yes, stories of pain and life’s winding ways, but also stories of God’s leading, His love, and the quiet ways He has been at work in everyday life. One of the greatest gifts of prayer is the chance to hear one another’s journeys, and these walks create space for exactly that. Complete strangers find a listening ear, being reminded of shared faith, purpose, and belonging to the family of God.
After the walk, the group pauses to debrief together before heading into the Stone Chapel for a short but meaningful prayer gathering from 7:30–7:50 a.m. A brief worship thought sets the tone, followed by a time of praying with and for one another.
Over the years, friendships have formed in this simple rhythm. Two individuals who met in a prayer group a couple of years ago now pray together regularly, supporting one another through life’s ups and downs. Their story is just one example of how God weaves lives together when His people pray.
If you’re longing for community, renewal, or a deeper sense of God’s presence, the morning prayer walk may be exactly what your soul needs. Come as you are! There’s a place for you on the path.
