Opening Night of Camp Meeting 2023

Sunday, May 28, 2023, marked the opening night of Carolina Camp Meeting. It was wonderful to be reunited with everyone at beautiful Lake Junaluska as we embarked on this year’s theme of “Seeking His Face.” Leslie and Carole Louis warmly welcomed the attendees, with Elder Louis emphasizing that the theme’s purpose is also a prayer that attendees are seeking Christ’s face now with the hope and assurance of seeing His face in the near future.

The program commenced with harmonies by the vocal group New Day Sound, followed by two mission focuses. Special music was provided by the Arden Youth Quartet.

Tom Evans, our Global Vista presenter, shared a story of a miraculous baby rescue. The baby, later named Abraham, had been abandoned in a gunny sack, wrapped in a plastic bag, and buried in a field. Twelve hours later he was discovered alive and crying by rescuers from the Adventist mission in the area.

Leslie and Carole Louis, along with Lance Morrison, Carolina Conference publishing director, highlighted opportunities and testimonies associated with distributing GLOW tracts.

Our Sunday through Wednesday evening speaker this year is Kameron Devasher, director of the Sabbath School and personal ministries department for the Michigan Conference. Interestingly, Devasher is the brother-in-law of David Wright, Adult Sabbath School director for the Carolina Conference and lead pastor of the Hendersonville church. In his opening message, titled “Knowing Your Enemy,” Devasher depicted a courtroom scenario where the judge, serving as the jury and witness, immediately pronounced a guilty verdict when he saw the accused. He elaborated on the significance of God allowing Lucifer’s trial to unfold. Sin was concealed within Lucifer’s heart and imperceptible to the universe, so God couldn’t execute Satan on the spot.

Don’t miss Devasher’s presentation tonight, entitled “Lucifer’s Lemonade Stand.”
