During his seminar “You Are Not Alone,” Jeffery Brown offered encouragement and a biblical perspective on singleness, reminding attendees that both singleness and marriage are gifts from God. Drawing from the writings of Paul, Brown emphasized that singleness should not be viewed as a deficiency or something to be pitied, but rather as a unique season and calling that can be used for God’s glory.
Brown challenged the mindset often directed toward single individuals, particularly within church settings. Comments such as “What is a nice person like you doing still single?” can unintentionally diminish the value of singleness. Instead, Brown explained that Scripture presents singleness as a blessing and an opportunity for focused service to God.
He also reminded listeners that singleness is not always limited to one stage of life. Even those who are married may one day experience singleness again through the loss of a spouse. Because of this, as Christians, we should learn to value both gifts and trust God through every season.
Using the parable of the talents as an illustration, Brown encouraged attendees to make the most of the season God has given them. Rather than waiting for a future circumstance to begin fully serving God, individuals are called to give Him their best now.
Brown also emphasized the importance of living with spiritual focus, noting that believers cannot afford to carry excess baggage that distracts them from their relationship with Christ. Whether married or single, we are called to be single-minded in our pursuit of God’s glory and to cast our cares upon Jesus, trusting Him to carry them.
