Hope and harmony filled the room as attendees gathered for choir rehearsals under the direction of Steven Green, the music director at Mount Pisgah Academy. More than simply preparing music, the rehearsals became a meaningful reflection on faith, perseverance, and the camp meeting theme, “We Shall Behold Him.”
Among the songs presented was I Believe, a moving selection based on a Jewish poem carved into a rock wall in Germany during the 1940s. Written in the midst of suffering and uncertainty, the words carry a powerful message of hope and trust in God despite difficult circumstances. As the choir learned the piece, Green guided singers through both the musical elements and the deeper emotions expressed in the lyrics.
Throughout rehearsal, Green patiently instructed choir members while encouraging them to connect personally with the song’s message. At one point, he reflected on how many people today may feel as though they are “locked in a cellar,” surrounded by discouragement or hardship, yet reminded the choir that liberation and hope are coming. He emphasized how beautifully the song connects with the camp meeting theme, pointing forward to the day when believers will finally behold Christ face to face.
Adding to the meaningful atmosphere, Green also sang alongside the choir, creating a spirit of unity and shared worship among participants. Through music, storytelling, and heartfelt instruction, the rehearsals became more than preparation for a performance; they served as a reminder that even in life’s darkest moments, faith continues to sing with hope.
