Each year during camp meeting, the Adventist Christian Book Center (ACBC) becomes a bustling hub of activity, and under the thoughtful direction of Stan Shireman, this year is no different. The store is more than just a place to pick up books—it’s an experience tailored to spiritual growth, family engagement, and even creative expression.
The center aisle features books either written or recommended by camp meeting speakers, and at the front of the store, the first table highlights special features such as discounted books, staff picks, and new releases.
Children love their own dedicated section, filled with colorful, faith-based resources—from storybooks about Jesus to kid-friendly Bibles and engaging coloring books that tell Bible stories in ways young readers can enjoy and understand.
In addition to books, the ACBC offers:
Cold sweet treats (including ice cream and fruity bars)
Veggie meat products, nuts, and other vegetarian food options
“Adventist coffee”—a warm, caffeine-free beverage alternative
Don’t miss the craft and art section, where “Words of Life Designs” by Christy Showalter brings color and meaning to the space. Christy—a follower of Christ, wife, mother, nurse, and educator—uses her gift in watercolor painting to share messages of Scripture and encouragement.
In her own words:
“This journey began as a creative outlet through watercolor and has since grown into a small business and ministry dedicated to sharing beauty, encouragement, and hope.”
A portion of the proceeds from her work supports the Student Support Fund at Southern Adventist University’s School of Nursing, helping students feel seen, supported, and valued.
Visitors can purchase her ready-made pieces or inquire about custom projects. Christy welcomes inquiries at: showalterc88@gmail.com.
Whether you’re searching for a new devotional, a children’s book, a gift Bible, a sweet treat, or some creative inspiration, ACBC is more than a bookstore—it’s a vibrant part of the camp meeting experience. Be sure to stop by, explore, and enjoy everything it has to offer!
