“Prayer is the opening of the heart to God as to a friend. Not that it is necessary in order to make known to God what we are, but in order to enable us to receive Him. Prayer does not bring God down to us, but brings us up to Him.” — Steps to Christ, p. 93
A great way to start the day is in communion with God, and the early morning prayer walk during camp meeting is an excellent way to do that. Each morning at 6:30 a.m., a group of devoted individuals gathers in front of the pool for prayer, followed by a serene walk around Lake Junaluska.
Every morning, a specific prayer theme guides the reflections. Today’s theme focused on relationships, highlighting the blessings that come from community, conversation,
and companionship. Just as God desires to be in community with us, He also calls us to build meaningful relationships with those around us. Prayer plays a crucial role in this process, as our connections can bring both immense joy and deep sorrow. Yet, God’s ultimate desire is for us to create communities that bring us joy and fulfillment.
After a thoughtful walk, enjoying the amusing songs of the birds, and watching the graceful parade of swans on the lake, the prayer walk concluded with a short reflection.
We pondered the biblical account of creation, considering how God created Eve to offer companionship to Adam. This story reminds us that companionship and community are integral to God’s design for humanity. As we draw from the ever-fresh fountain, prayer becomes a conversation with Jesus, transforming our characters and positively impacting those around us.
Following the prayer walk, we were invited to connect with our Lord through prayer during the group session at the chapel.
As we continue our day, may our interactions be filled with grace and kindness, reflecting
the love we receive from God. Let our relationships flourish as we seek to build each other up in faith and love, always remembering that the Holy Spirit is with us every step of the way.
Join us for the prayer walk every morning this week at 6:30 a.m. in front of the pool, followed by the prayer group at 7:30 a.m. at the Stone Chapel.
