Supporting Young Adults in their Spiritual Journeys

On Monday, Cris Cazarine, Carolina Conference young adult director, took a different approach in her efforts to engage the young adults. She organized a discussion group where they could openly talk about life and their spiritual journeys, with a particular focus on how the church can better support young adults. The objective was to create a safe space for them to share their thoughts and experiences.

During the session, several young adults expressed their views on various activities in which they had participated, both within and outside the church. They discussed what they appreciated and suggested areas for improvement. The central topic of conversation revolved around the issue of young adults leaving the church and feeling disconnected. Many felt that they were not benefiting from their church

experience because of a lack of relationships, community, and emphasis on small groups.

Additionally, they highlighted the generation gap between young adults and older adults, pointing out

the conflicts that arise from differing preferences and worship styles. Cazarine emphasized the importance of relationships as the key to addressing these challenges. Breaking down barriers and

creating an environment where everyone can contribute their unique talents is essential. By fostering a strong sense of community, young adults can be empowered to become leaders within the church. She reminded the group that the church is not just a physical place but a community of people, and it is crucial to focus on building genuine relationships rather than solely addressing church-related issues.

Cazarine also highlighted the biblical model of discipleship and encouraged the young adults to embrace their role in making disciples both within and outside the church.

In closing, Cazarine encouraged the young adults to be enthusiastic leaders and to extend their focus

beyond those within the church. She reminded them to consider the needs of young adults outside the church community, recognizing the importance of reaching out and making a positive impact in the wider world.
