Going the Distance:

Excitement and Achievement at the Run4Life 5K and 1-Mile Fun Run

In the brisk morning air, runners lined up to test their endurance at Friday’s 5K race. Rick Russell thanked participants for their dedication to fitness and said a brief prayer. At the conclusion of the countdown, the competitors surged forward. After running as a large group for a while, the racers separated into smaller groups as each one found his or her steady pace.

After the 5K runners bolted away from the starting line, the one-mile Fun Run participants lined up. Although this group had a more relaxed vibe, the first-place runner, Levi Rowe, came in at a hasty 6:41.

The 5K winner, Cooper Getchell, blazed across the finish line at 18:36. His goal for the race was to “go for the win.” Getchell (pictured below) stated that he felt sure of his victory when he reached the final halfmile. Getchell now holds the title of fastest time for the Camp Meeting 5K, although his personal best for a 5K is 17:25. Not surprisingly, Getchell competes in track and cross country back home.

We look forward to seeing you at next year’s Camp Meeting Run4Life 5K/1-Mile Fun Run!
