Reflecting on Memorial Day

Updated: May 29

Today is a time for reflection, gratitude, and deep respect for the countless soldiers who have laid own their lives for the principles of freedom, democracy, and peace. It is a day to honor their sacrifice,

acknowledge the grief of families and friends left behind, and pursue a world where such sacrifices are no longer necessary.

HARRY TRUMAN “Our debt to the heroic men and valiant women in the service of our country can never be repaid. They have earned our undying gratitude. America will never forget their sacrifices.”

Memorial Day can be traced back to the aftermath of the Civil War, a time when the nation sought to heal from the devastating conflict. It was then known as Decoration Day, a time to decorate the graves of the fallen with flowers and remember the price of the unity and liberty people often take for granted.

More than a century later, Memorial Day has become a national moment of unity, where politics and personal differences are set aside in favor of remembrance and reverence. As we enjoy the freedoms secured by the valor of our fallen heroes, let us not forget that each of them had a story, a family, dreams, and a love for their country greater than their own lives. They were individuals of extraordinary courage, ordinary people who responded to the call of duty with firm resolve. Thank you for your service and sacrifice in the preservation of freedom for all.
